The individuals living at Woolston Road have access to a minibus for getting out and about and the home is also close to public transport links. We just wanted to say a huge thank you to you all, for all the love, care and understanding, you have shown mum since she moved into the home. It’s been so reassuring to know she is safe, happy and surrounded by love. We spoke with three people who use the service, three relatives of people, three staff and the manager.
We saw soiled incontinence pads wrapped up in soiled laundry had been sent to the laundry room. This posed a risk of injury to people using these doors regularly. We also identified concerns around some aspects of the environment and infection control.
Aspen Lodge Care Home
All rooms are fully furnished but residents are encouraged to bring in small personal items to make the room look and feel more homely. Mum flourished physically and mentally and her dementia was managed superbly. Daily contact was established using Facetime, skype, WhatsApp and the common telephone. The Facebook page also allowed us to be part of the community - the true family culture. Mum thought she was at my house and I’d decorated it for her, which in itself speak volumes of how comfortable she was within her own world.
Care plans were well organised and contained detailed information about each person’s individual needs. Care records detailed people’s preferences and dislikes and past life history. Where appropriate, relatives were included in the reviews of the care plans. The service had identified the minimum numbers of staff required to meet people’s needs and these were being met. People’s bedrooms were comfortable and personalised to reflect people’s individual tastes.
Great Activities & Relaxed Environment.
They told us that staff met their care needs and that they were happy living there. Staff supported them with their medication and ensured they got their tablets when they needed them. People felt able to talk to the manager if they had any concerns or complaints. We found the home was responsive because there were systems in place to enable people to complain if they were unhappy about aspects of their care.
People were supported to express their views and be involved in making daily decisions about their care and support. Staff described how they supported people with personal care whilst being mindful of their dignity. Risk assessments identified when people were at risk from every day activities, such as moving around the home or using equipment. Arrangements were in place to ensure people’s safety in the building. People’s needs were met by suitable numbers of staff and appropriate recruitment procedures were in place.

People were assessed prior to receiving care and support plans were developed to show how their needs would be met. Risk assessments were completed and measures to reduce risks were put in place. Staff were supported by a system of induction training, supervision and appraisals. Staff received training relevant for their role and there were good opportunities for on-going training and support and development.
South Haven Lodge is situated in a quiet residential area in Woolston, just 0.3 of a mile from Woolston Station and 2.2 miles from the centre of Southampton. The dining area has been designed to make mealtimes an enjoyable social occasion for the residents with tables for four. Full central heating and carpeting are provided throughout the home which is all ground floor. Our accommodation comprises of 35 ground floor single bedrooms, all with en-suite facilities.

Springfield House Care Home is situated in Woolston, Southampton. They provide accommodation and care for up to 23 older people who may have dementia.
People were supported to stay at Springfield House Care Home at the end of their lives if this was their wish and staff could meet their needs. At the time of the inspection there were 18 people living at the home. Springfield House is a care home which offers care and support for up to 23 predominantly older people.
I have managed a number of services that have supported adults with learning disabilities and additional health needs such as epilepsy, sight impairment and physical disabilities. The bedrooms are spacious and all have en-suite bath or shower rooms. Two bedrooms are on the ground floor and four bedrooms are on the first floor which can be accessed by two staircases or a lift. Everyone living at Woolston Road is encouraged to decorate and personalise their bedroom according to their tastes.
We saw staff putting a hand gently on people’s backs when they were walking, which was showing the person they were there to support them. People were supported by sufficient staff who had received relevant training to enable them to support people effectively. People were able to walk around the building independently and sit in the garden if they wished. I started as a support worker with no care experience and have worked in multiple roles throughout my career ranging from support worker to Operations Manager.
To maintain and exceed an already proven high standard of quality, service and care to our residents. Meals were appetising and people were offered a choice in line with their dietary requirements and preferences. Where necessary staff monitored what people ate to help ensure they stayed healthy.
The home is also ideally located with The Royal Victoria Country Park and Hamble Marina right on their door step and great accessibility to Southampton City. South Haven Lodge, Woolston, Southampton
We looked at the care plans for three people who used the service and whose needs were considered complex. Their needs had been assessed and regularly reviewed to ensure any changes were identified and responded to. Care plans were detailed and personalised to individuals and included risk assessments. Daily records showed the care plans were being followed which meant people’s assessed needs were being met. Staff received appropriate professional development and annual appraisal to support them in their work.
